Holidays in Appledore, North Devon

Appledore is a quiet fishing port that sits on the edge of the river Torridge overlooking the idyllic Taw and Torridge estuary is a holiday favourite for those looking to get away to a quiet West country location. The mazy streets that lead down through the village to the waterside are full of galleries, pubs and cottages.

The village of Appledore itself is a sleepy location where the pace of live does not accelerate very rapidly all year round. There are a number of events that take place throughout the year that draw in the crowds and, at times, during the summer season the village can begin to get a little busier. Appledore also hosts the Appledore Book festival, which runs from the end of September and is getting busier every year. However, if you’re after a bit of privacy and some time to reflect, or just want a quiet time with the family then holiday in Appledore is what you need.

Sit on the sea-front and lick an ice-cream as you look across the bay to the sandy Instow beach or further out to sea. Alternatively, sit back in the evening sunshine and enjoy a pint of the finest local ale in a waterside pub as you watch the world go by.

While Appledore may not have the bright lights of the bigger towns and cities of Devon, it certainly will be just what you’re looking for if you’re chasing that postcard-perfect holiday location.
